Holladay is one of our favorite service areas. The mix of older established homes, mature tree cover, and a concentration of well-kept luxury daily drivers means most of the cars we work on here have owners who already understand the difference between a wash and a detail. They want it done right, and they've usually been burned by a tunnel wash or a discount detailer at some point.
What we see most often on Holladay vehicles
Mature tree sap and bird debris. Holladay's mature canopy — particularly along Holladay Boulevard, in Holladay Village, and through the older streets around 4500 South — is beautiful and brutal on paint. Linden, maple, and elm trees drop honeydew and seed pods that bond to clear coat fast. Bird droppings from the same tree canopy are even more aggressive. Cars parked outside in Holladay almost always need a clay or decon step before any polishing, and a ceramic coating dramatically extends the window between deep cleans.
Hard-water spotting from sprinkler systems. Established neighborhoods mean established yards, and Holladay yards mean automatic sprinklers running through summer. Overspray onto cars parked in driveways is one of the most common paint issues we see in this area. Mineral deposits etch into clear coat in a matter of days, especially through the hot August stretch. Caught early, they polish out cleanly. Caught late, they're permanent silhouettes in the clear coat. The fix is a paint correction — but the prevention is checking your sprinkler heads each spring.
Garage-stored cars with surface dust and tire flat-spots. A significant share of Holladay vehicles are weekend cars or low-mileage daily drivers kept in heated garages. These cars develop their own set of problems: fine surface dust that's not "dirty" but isn't "clean" either, tire flat-spots from sitting, and rubber components (door seals, trim) that dry out faster in heated garage environments. A garage-car detail looks different from a daily-driver detail — less aggressive wash, more attention to surfaces that haven't been cleaned in a year, full rubber and leather conditioning to undo the drying.
Older cars with thinning clear coat. Holladay has a higher concentration of original-paint cars 15+ years old than most of the valley — well-cared-for sedans, SUVs, and the occasional pickup that's been in the family two decades. These need a different correction approach. Standard polishing aggression can burn through what's left of the clear coat. We use a paint thickness gauge on every panel before any machine work, and we'll honestly tell you when a car is too far gone for correction and should get a coating applied over the paint as-is.

If you're considering a ceramic coating on an older car, this is exactly the conversation we want to have. The answer depends on what the paint looks like under the existing damage, not just the year on the title.
